As well as purchasing large items of equipment for Noble’s Hospital, The Trust also supports healthcare at the grass roots level, in the community.
It has launched a new series of grants aimed at rewarding outstanding GP practices on the island. The money will be used by the practice to purchase a new piece of equipment that will benefit their patients.

The first practice to receive one of the new grants is the Snaefell Surgery, in Anagh Coar.
Their story is an inspiring one. This is what they have to say:
‘The NHS has faced difficult times in many areas particularly with retention and recruitment of staff across the whole service. Snaefell Surgery was threatened with closure in early 2021 however alternative solutions were explored and Mary-Rose Pritchard and Janette Qualtrough joined the practice in October 2021 as Advanced Nurse Practitioner Partners.
‘In January 2023, Snaefell Surgery became the first nurse led practice in the Isle of Man and the second in the UK. Whist the model is unique, the practice operates in the same way as other practices on the island and provides care to patients in Douglas and the surrounding area.
‘We are proud to be part of General Practice here on the Isle of Man and strive for excellence, quality improvement and safety for our patients. Snaefell Surgery is based in the heart of the community, in Anagh Coar, and we feel it is essential to listen to the needs of the community in relation to the services we offer in order to deliver a patient centred approach.
‘We have a fantastic team of nurses, GPs and more recently a health care assistant and pharmacist, with the support of a fantastic management and administrative team. We appreciate it has been difficult following the Covid pandemic, with a significant increase in demand noted across the whole of the UK. As a practice we are continuously looking at ways to improve the patient experience and our aim is for patients to be seen by the right person, in the right place at the right time.
‘With this in mind we were thrilled to be approached by the Trust and to be considered for their grant. We have been looking at the management of patients with long term conditions and, in particular, asthma and those patients with suspected asthma. The grant has enabled us to purchase a FeNo machine which can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of asthma and also in the management of asthma in those that have symptoms despite using inhaled corticosteroids.
‘The use of FeNo in Primary care is supported by NICE (Guidance NG80) and we hope that it will in turn improve patient outcomes and may reduce the need for onward referral to secondary care for testing.’
